Bio

Issa Aghabi is an Investment Officer at IFC, a World Bank Group company, which invests in ventures and early-growth companies that offer innovative technologies or business models geared at emerging markets. Their sectors of focus are healthcare, edu-tech, consumer Internet—including ecommerce—and clean technology. By executing transactions at an earlier stage than IFC’s more traditional business, they enhance the organization's strong commitment to innovation, supporting local businesses, and accelerating cross-border technology transfers. With one of the largest footprints in emerging markets, they offer local knowledge, connections to other clients and portfolios, as well as an understanding of regulations and local domains. Issa currently oversees their investment activities in MENA across direct and indirect investments. Issa was previously Head of Investments at twofour54, responsible for managing the company’s funding of start-ups, early stage and growth businesses across the wider media and entertainment platform including media-tech, digital, mobile, web, music and gaming Issa’s career has so far been focused on finance and investment for over 11 years, specialising in early stage businesses in the wider TMT space. Having started his career in investment banking, Issa then transitioned into the regional Venture Capital space in 2007 as founding member of IV Holdings / Accelerator technologies, one of the first venture funds in the Arab world. Issa has also consulted at Yahoo! to help shape their growth plans from both an investment and business development perspective. He then joined N2V, a regional online holding company, as the Head of business development and investment which included him acting as a director in one of their portfolio companies. Issa holds an MBA with focus on Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Mergers & Acquisition, Corporate Finance from Cass Business School (City University of London) and a bachelor degree in Commerce from Concordia University.
